What CurEight collects, what it is used for, and how to download or delete it.
What CurEight collects
- Your account. Your name, email address and profile picture, from the sign-in you choose. Sign-in is handled by Auth0, and CurEight never sees your password.
- What you do here. The curations you subscribe to and follow, the publications you tell us you subscribe to, your bookmarks and likes, the issues and links you open, and anything you write: comments, margin notes, questions, requests and messages to a curator.
- What you publish. Your curations, issues, editorials, and your public profile.
- Payments. Stripe takes the payment. CurEight stores the plan, its status and Stripe's reference numbers. It never receives your card number.
- Visits. A random id kept in your browser, the page you arrived on, the site that referred you, and any campaign tags or ad click id on the link. Your IP address is recorded with issue views, to count each view once and to limit abuse.
- Feedback. What you send through Send feedback, the page you sent it from, your browser type, and an email address if you give one.
What it is used for
- To show you the issues you subscribed to and send them to you by email.
- To recommend curations, and to show Coverage: how much of a subject your reading takes in.
- To take payments and pay curators.
- To show curators how their issues are read, as counts. A curator sees who their subscribers are, described below.
- To learn which links and campaigns bring people to CurEight.
- To keep the service secure and to answer you when you write.
CurEight does not sell personal data, and it shows no third-party advertising.
What a curator sees about you
When you subscribe to a curation, its curator can see your name, your email address, when you subscribed and whether your plan is free or paid. Curators can download that list, and it stays with them if they leave CurEight.
Comments, questions and requests you post on a curation appear under your name. Your reading history, bookmarks and margin notes are visible only to you.

Emails carry no tracking pixel, and links in them are not rewritten to track clicks.
Cookies and browser storage
- Sign-in cookie. Keeps you signed in. Set when you sign in.
- Preferences. Your theme, language, and whether the sidebar is open.
- Visitor id. A random id in your browser's storage, used to count visits and to connect a visit to the account it became.
No advertising or third-party analytics scripts run on CurEight. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, CurEight honours it.
Your choices
- Download your data. Settings, then Your data, gives you a copy of everything listed above.
- Delete your account. The same page deletes it at once. Subscriptions, bookmarks, likes, reading history, notes and preferences are erased. Comments and answered questions that are part of a curator's published issue stay, under “a former reader”.
- Email. Unsubscribe from any email, or set what you receive in Settings.
- Ad reporting. CurEight does not currently report sign-ups to any ad platform. If that changes, this page will say so first, and Settings, then Your data, lets you opt out.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to correct your data or to object to how it is used. Use Send feedback, in the sidebar of the app, to ask.
How long data is kept
Account data is kept while your account exists and erased when you delete it. Database backups are kept for up to 15 days. Payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires. Stripe and Auth0 keep their own records under their own policies.
Age
CurEight is for adults. It is not directed at children, and anyone under 18 should not create an account.
